The three basic sources of documentation are Cyrix, IBM and Intel. You can find most if not all documentation online on the Internet. Intel, Cyrix and IBM have specific Application Notes that address the problems of CPU identification, power dissipation and performance optimization.
The Cyrix site provides a complete set of technical documents.
The IBM site provides essentially the same information as the Cyrix site, but you may prefer the IBM format.
One very often has to refer to Pentium documentation, and Intel provides it to the general public from their Web site. However, I prefer the sandpile.org site for Pentium info: it's visually clean, straightforward, and avoids the marketing BS that cripples Intel's site.
Patches for Linux 2.x series kernels can be downloaded from the Linux Mama site, maintained by Kurt Huwig. Thanks, Kurt!
